Travelers planning a group trip on Amtrak can now benefit from a new group-discount option called “Share Fares.”
Introduced in late April, Share Fares lets parties of up to four purchase tickets at reduced rates. The first passenger pays full price; the second receives a 15% discount; the third receives a 60% discount; and the fourth receives a 70% discount. This structure makes short group escapes and longer journeys more affordable for small parties traveling together.
The discount applies to many of Amtrak’s popular routes, including the Northeast Regional service between Boston and Washington, D.C., as well as national routes such as the California Zephyr, the City of New Orleans and the Southwest Chief. Passengers should note that certain services—specifically Acela Express and Auto Train—are excluded from the program.
To use the offer, travelers must enter promo code V291 at checkout. The code applies only to one-way ticket purchases, so groups who want discounted fares in both directions should buy two separate one-way tickets. The promo code must be added during the online purchase process to apply the applicable savings to each passenger’s fare.
This Share Fares option simplifies group booking by combining a straightforward discount schedule with online promo-code application, making it easier for small groups to plan rail travel without needing special reservations or a large booking group. Travelers should confirm route eligibility and current fare rules on Amtrak’s website at the time of booking, since availability and terms can change.
