American Airlines and Qantas Airways are expanding their joint business by adding new nonstop services between the United States and Australia. These new routes will give travelers more direct options for travel between major West Coast hubs and Sydney.
Subject to regulatory approvals, American Airlines will launch a daily nonstop flight between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) starting Dec. 17. Qantas Airways will begin its own nonstop service between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Sydney starting Dec. 20. Initially, both carriers will operate the services on peak days, then increase frequency to operate up to six times per week by January 2016.
These additions strengthen the transpacific network offered by the two carriers, improving connectivity for business and leisure travelers. Passengers will benefit from more schedule options and easier connections to onward domestic and international flights through Los Angeles and San Francisco, two major U.S. gateways to the Asia-Pacific region.
Both airlines have emphasized coordination in scheduling and customer experience as part of their joint business. The expanded service is intended to complement existing flights across the Pacific, providing travelers with more nonstop choices and improved access to Australia from the western United States.
Before the services begin, the launches are subject to final regulatory approvals and completion of operational preparations. Once in service, the new LAX–SYD and SFO–SYD nonstops will offer travelers a direct alternative to one-stop itineraries that previously required connections at intermediate hubs.
American Airlines and Qantas continue to evaluate demand and may adjust frequencies and equipment based on market conditions. The expanded partnership reflects ongoing efforts by both carriers to grow transpacific options and streamline travel between North America and Australia.
