American Airlines Expands Flights and Routes to Mexico

American Airlines is expanding its presence in Mexico with new service to Mérida. The airline will begin nonstop flights on March 3, 2016, between Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport (MID) and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Tickets for the new route are available for purchase now.

The addition of Mérida increases American’s network in Mexico to 21 destinations and brings the airline’s schedule to nearly 120 daily flights between the United States and Mexico. “American was the first international carrier to serve Mexico in 1942, and we have remained one of the country’s leading international airlines ever since,” said Art Torno, senior vice president – international and cargo for American Airlines.

The Mérida route is intended to strengthen connections for both business and leisure travelers, offering reliable daily service and convenient connections across American’s global network via its Dallas/Fort Worth hub. Travelers can expect access to the carrier’s frequent flyer benefits, coordinated schedules for onward travel, and the option to choose among various fare classes.

Mérida, the capital of the Mexican state of Yucatán, is known for its colonial architecture, cultural attractions and proximity to popular tourist destinations such as the archaeological sites of Chichén Itzá and the coastal resorts of the Yucatán Peninsula. Improved air service aims to support tourism growth and provide additional travel options for residents of the region.

Passengers planning travel between Mérida and destinations across the United States and beyond should check American Airlines’ schedules for the most up-to-date flight times and availability. As with new route launches, travelers are advised to review baggage allowances, boarding procedures and any travel advisories before departure.
