American Airlines Adds New Philadelphia Routes — Where You Can Fly Now

American Airlines has opened bookings for several new nonstop routes from its Philadelphia (PHL) hub to destinations in the Midwest and Texas. These additions expand the carrier’s domestic network from Philadelphia and provide more direct travel options for business and leisure travelers.

Service to San Antonio (SAT) will begin on Feb. 15. Flights to three Midwestern cities — Des Moines (DSM), Madison (MSN) and Omaha (OMA) — will start on May 4. These routes are being added as part of a broader effort to increase domestic connectivity from PHL and to complement recently announced international service from the same hub.

“These new domestic markets are important and will complement the recently announced international destinations from our Philadelphia hub. American offers more non-stop flights than all other airlines combined at PHL and we are excited to add to that roster,” said Vasu Raja, vice president, network and schedule planning for American Airlines.

Alongside the new destinations, American will also deploy an Airbus A330-200 on the Philadelphia–Los Angeles (PHL–LAX) route beginning March 25, increasing capacity on one of the airline’s key transcontinental flights.

Flight schedules for the new nonstop service are designed to accommodate a range of travel needs. The San Antonio flight departs Philadelphia at 6:35 p.m. and arrives in Texas at 9:31 p.m., making it convenient for late-afternoon and early-evening departures from PHL. The Madison service departs Philadelphia at 10:30 a.m. and arrives around noon, offering a mid-morning option for travelers to Wisconsin’s capital.

Des Moines will be served twice daily from Philadelphia. The first departure is at 11:05 a.m., and a second departure is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., with each flight taking approximately two hours. Omaha also receives twice-daily service, with departures from Philadelphia at 10:30 a.m. and 5:39 p.m., providing flexibility for both daytime and late-afternoon travel. These frequencies support convenient same-day returns and connections across American’s network.

Aircraft types assigned to the new routes match market demand and route length. Service to San Antonio will be operated with an Airbus A319. The Madison, Des Moines and Omaha flights will be flown by Embraer E175 regional jets, which are commonly used on short- to medium-haul routes and offer a balance of comfort and efficiency.

By adding these destinations and adjusting fleet deployment at the Philadelphia hub, American Airlines aims to increase nonstop options for travelers in the Northeast and improve connections throughout its domestic and international route map. Travelers can now book these new flights through the airline’s standard reservation channels.
