At Salt Life Food Shack, take a seat on the open-air deck for ocean views, tropical cocktails and a menu that ranges from sushi and Bahamian fish chowder to wood-grilled mahi tacos, crab-baked grouper and seared ahi tuna salad. The raw bar is particularly appealing, with a rotating selection of oysters and chilled shellfish that highlight the local catch.

Wicked BAO offers Asian-fusion street food in a warm, personal setting. Owner Nathalie Wu greets guests and helps guide menu choices in the historic building that houses the restaurant. The signature handheld baos — pillowy, bun-like sandwiches — come filled with favorites such as adobo pulled pork, buttermilk fried chicken and bulgogi beef. Shareable sides like Sichuan dumplings, shrimp spring rolls and crunchy rice tots complement mains that range from crispy pork chop rice to Singapore-style chili shrimp and rotating chef specials.

Story & Song Neighborhood Bookstore Bistro combines a lively bookstore atmosphere with a café menu inspired by literary titles. The two-story space is filled with colorful books and cards, and the menu features cleverly named dishes such as the Little Paris Bookshop Slice of Quiche and the Eat, Pray, Love Hummus & Flatbread. Seasonal options like the Secret Garden Salad come served with a bright dressing made from Champagne vinegar and citrus. The bookstore also hosts author talks, storytelling sessions and live music, making it a community hub where you can linger over coffee and a good read.

Local craft beer fans will find welcoming brewpubs such as Mocama — named for a Timucuan phrase meaning “big water where the sun is born” — and First Love Brew Pub. At First Love, owners Kevin and Jessie have created a cozy spot serving handcrafted beers alongside comforting dishes, including treasured family recipes and pizzas made with imported Italian flour. The pub often pairs pizzas with its house brews for a satisfying tasting experience.

If you prefer spirits, Marlin & Barrel Distillery offers tours, tastings and cocktails crafted from organic ingredients. The distillery’s name nods to the marlin and to a literary reference. Signature spirits include espresso rum, smoked pepper vodka, seasonal apple-spice rum and a tangerine Blossom cordial that works beautifully in summer margaritas and martinis. Sampling these small-batch creations is a great way to cap off an evening on the island.
