All Nippon Airways Launches New Passenger Communication Device

All Nippon Airways (ANA) is introducing BONX Grip, a compact wireless “hearable” that streamlines communication among cabin crew. Designed to enable clear, real-time conversation at a distance, the device helps flight attendants coordinate more efficiently without relying solely on traditional intercom systems.

BONX Grip joins a string of technology-focused initiatives from the Japanese carrier. ANA has previously trialed innovations such as self-driving wheelchairs and other operational advancements aimed at improving passenger experience and operational efficiency.

“At ANA, we apply the latest technology to constantly improve our ability to offer world-class service, hospitality and comfort aboard our flights,” said Akihiko Miura, executive vice president of ANA. “By making it easier for flight attendants to communicate with each other, they will be better equipped to meet passenger needs. These hearable devices are just one important tool that ANA is testing, and we look forward to harnessing the latest technological breakthroughs to improve every aspect of the travel experience.”

On aircraft like the Airbus A380, BONX Grip reduces the need to use fixed intercoms and gives cabin crew more flexibility to deliver customer service. With these devices, crew members can talk across the full length of the cabin without having to move up and down the aisles, improving response times and coordination during routine service and busy periods.

By integrating wearable communication tools, ANA aims to enhance passenger care while maintaining the discreet, attentive service the airline is known for. The quieter, hands-free approach also supports safety and efficiency, allowing attendants to keep their focus on passengers and tasks rather than searching for an interphone.

As airlines continue to adopt newer technologies, solutions like BONX Grip illustrate how small, practical devices can have a meaningful impact on daily operations. ANA’s ongoing trials reflect a broader industry trend toward leveraging portable, wireless systems to complement existing onboard communications and improve the overall travel experience.
