Airberlin announced two new transatlantic services from Düsseldorf (DUS) to Canada and the United States.
The airline will operate four weekly flights from Düsseldorf to Toronto (YYZ) beginning May 1, 2018, and five weekly flights from Düsseldorf to Chicago (ORD) starting May 2, 2018. The Toronto route is airberlin’s first service to Canada. With these additions the carrier plans to operate what it calls the most extensive schedule in its history, aiming for around 100 long‑haul flights per week.
“We are writing the first chapter in the new airberlin’s success story,” said Götz Ahmelmann, chief compliance officer at airberlin. “We now have three additional long‑haul aircraft in our fleet. We are already the largest provider of U.S. flights in North Rhine‑Westphalia and Berlin. And we will continue to expand. Supplementing the U.S. program with additional flights to Canada is the next step on the road to success.”
Overall, the carrier increased long‑haul services from Düsseldorf Airport by 13 percent compared with the previous year, bringing the total to 57 weekly flights between Düsseldorf and the United States. Airberlin also announced plans to expand its U.S. network this winter, including the introduction of seasonal flights to San Francisco (SFO) over the winter period and making services to Orlando (MCO) year‑round.
