Air India Moves Operations to London Heathrow: What Travelers Need to Know

Air India has shifted its London Heathrow (LHR) operations from Terminal 4 to Terminal 2, joining its Star Alliance partners at the Queen’s Terminal to streamline connections and improve the passenger experience.

The carrier currently operates eight daily arrivals and departures at Heathrow: two daily flights to Delhi (DEL), one daily service to Mumbai (BOM), four weekly flights to Ahmedabad (AMD) and three weekly services to Newark (EWR).

Jeffrey Goh, chief executive officer of Star Alliance, said the move completes a long-term plan to consolidate the alliance’s presence at Heathrow. With 24 member airlines serving the airport, Terminal 2 now brings those carriers together under one roof. The consolidation is expected to benefit roughly 1,000 Air India passengers who use Terminal 2 each day by offering a more seamless travel experience.

Terminal 2 provides a range of shared facilities for Star Alliance members, including multi-airline check-in kiosks, common baggage drop counters and several alliance lounges. Passengers will have access to lounges operated by Air Canada, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines and United, as well as streamlined ground handling that supports easier connections between partner flights.

As part of the move, Air India passengers will have lounge access at the Lufthansa Lounge in T2A and the United Lounge in T2B, depending on their departure gate and eligibility. The relocation is intended to make transfers, check-in and lounge access more convenient for travelers flying on Star Alliance itineraries through Heathrow.
