Air Canada Introduces New Lie-Flat Seats on Select Routes

Air Canada has become the first North American airline to introduce lie-flat suites for premium customers traveling non-stop to Canada on major transcontinental routes. This enhancement is part of the carrier’s new Air Canada Signature Service, which includes the onboard Air Canada Signature Class experience.

The upgraded service launches June 1 and will be available on select wide-body aircraft operating from Newark (EWR) to Vancouver (YVR), as well as on daily daytime and overnight flights from Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) to Toronto (YYZ). Eligible passengers will enjoy lie-flat suites and a range of improved onboard amenities designed for longer itineraries.

Air Canada Signature Service provides priority treatment throughout the journey. Customers will have access to airport concierge services, expedited check-in and security, priority baggage handling, and preferential boarding. Signature Service travelers also receive access to Air Canada’s Maple Leaf Lounges. Those connecting to international departures at Toronto–Pearson may use the exclusive Air Canada Signature Suite, which offers à la carte dining from a menu created by Canadian chef David Hawksworth.

“Our new Air Canada Signature Service and Air Canada Signature Class brands reflect the ongoing refinements to our premium travel service. We know our premium customers traveling on longer flight itineraries, such as overnight transcontinental flights, place a high value on convenience and comfort when in airports or onboard an aircraft. We are the first North American airline designating aircraft with lie-flat seats for U.S. originating premium customers traveling select transborder routes on non-stop flights so that they can arrive fully rested in Canada,” said Benjamin Smith, president of passenger airlines, Air Canada.

These changes position Air Canada to better meet the needs of business and leisure travelers who prioritize rest and privacy on longer flights. The lie-flat suites provide a private, comfortable sleeping environment with direct aisle access in many configurations, while the broader Signature Service emphasizes seamless, priority handling from curb to gate and beyond. Together, these features aim to reduce travel stress and improve recovery time on arrival.

By concentrating premium upgrades on transcontinental routes between major U.S. gateways and Canadian hubs, Air Canada targets travelers on longer segments where in-flight comfort and onboard service make the greatest difference. The airline’s approach combines upgraded seating, dedicated ground services, and elevated lounge dining to create a consistent premium travel experience that begins before boarding and continues through connections.

With this rollout, Air Canada signals a renewed focus on competing in the premium market for transborder routes, offering amenities typically associated with international long-haul business class. For frequent flyers and occasional premium travelers alike, the Signature Service promises enhanced comfort and convenience designed to help passengers arrive refreshed and ready for their next destination.
