Aeromexico flight 2431 crashed near Durango, Mexico, on Tuesday, July 31, with 103 people on board. The aircraft had just departed Guadalupe Victoria International Airport, bound for Mexico City, when it entered a rapid descent minutes after takeoff. State and airline officials report that strong winds and a developing storm contributed to the accident.
Authorities say 85 people sustained injuries of varying severity. Fortunately, there were no fatalities.
Eyewitness and official accounts indicate that shortly after takeoff the plane’s left wing struck the runway, which led to an immediate loss of both engines. The aircraft subsequently crash-landed and slid off the runway, coming to rest after approximately another 1,000 feet of travel.
Of the 103 people on board, 49 were transported to hospitals with minor injuries and 36 were admitted with more serious injuries; medical officials expect all injured passengers and crew to survive.
Emergency crews and airline personnel say all passengers and crew were evacuated using the aircraft’s emergency slides before the plane became engulfed in flames. Rescue and medical teams provided on-scene assistance and transferred the injured to local hospitals.
Investigators will examine weather reports, maintenance records, and flight data to determine the precise sequence of events that led to the crash. Authorities have emphasized that the ongoing investigation aims to identify causal factors and recommend safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Local and federal aviation agencies, together with airline representatives, continue coordinating emergency response and passenger support. Families of those on board have been notified, and counseling and logistical assistance are being offered to survivors and relatives.
The airport remained under emergency operations while responders cleared the scene. Flight schedules and operations in the region were affected as investigators secured the site and assessed damage. Officials ask the public to refrain from speculation and to rely on updates from authorized agencies as the investigation progresses.
