Qantas Comfort: How to Upgrade Your In-Flight Experience

Qantas customers departing from Los Angeles (LAX) now have a calm, stylish retreat at the airport: the airline has opened a new Qantas First Lounge.

Designed by Australian industrial designer Marc Newson, the lounge draws on the acclaimed design of Qantas First Lounges in Sydney (SYD) and Melbourne (MEL). The spacious facility accommodates more than 200 guests and is divided into distinct zones for dining, relaxation, work and socializing.

“The new lounge is more than triple the size of the previous space, and the design and service is equal to the world’s best five star hotels and restaurants,” said Alan Joyce, CEO of the Qantas Group. The airline emphasised that lounges play a key role in the international travel experience and that they worked with leading design and culinary experts to create a luxurious pre-flight environment.

Interior appointments combine contemporary comfort with premium finishes: Californian Knoll furniture, American oak walls, Tuscan Carrara marble flooring, a 48-foot bar and Tai Ping wool carpets sourced from Hong Kong. The lounge also includes a 74-seat restaurant and bar where passengers can dine while watching an open-style kitchen.

The restaurant menu was developed by chef Neil Perry and will be refreshed seasonally to highlight the best available ingredients. Offerings include a mix of signature Rockpool Bar & Grill dishes—such as Black Angus minute steak with chipotle butter and lime—alongside locally inspired Los Angeles dishes drawing on Mexican, Korean and Italian influences.

The new Qantas First Lounge at LAX aims to provide a calm, high-quality experience that mirrors top-tier hotels and restaurants, giving international travelers a refined space to eat, work and unwind before boarding.
