Free Wi‑Fi on SNCF Trains Across France: What Travelers Need to Know

France’s national state-owned railway company SNCF has begun offering on-board WiFi for its trains. The initial rollout started last month on domestic high-speed TGV services, according to reports from Railway Gazette.

Service is currently available on the busy Paris–Lyon corridor, with additional trains and routes scheduled to receive connectivity over the coming months as the rollout continues.

SNCF operates roughly 300 TGV sets, and only a subset of those running on the Paris–Lyon line are equipped with WiFi at this stage. Passengers should therefore not assume every TGV on that route already provides the service.

Importantly, the WiFi access is free for all passengers on trains where it has been installed, allowing travelers to browse, check email, and work while in transit without extra charges.

As installation progresses, SNCF plans to expand coverage to more trains and routes, improving the onboard experience for long-distance and regional travelers alike. For now, passengers can check service availability before boarding or look for onboard information indicating WiFi access.
