TAP, which will mark its 80th anniversary in 2025, first began transatlantic service between the United States and Portugal in 1969. The carrier currently serves seven U.S. gateways: New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Boston (BOS), Miami (MIA), Washington, D.C. (IAD), San Francisco (SFO), and Chicago (ORD).
As part of a broader expansion across the Americas, TAP added service at Chicago O’Hare, San Francisco International and Washington Dulles five years ago. This summer, the airline will operate more than 100 weekly flights from 10 North American gateways, including Toronto (YYZ) and Montreal (YUL) in Canada.

All three new routes participate in TAP’s Portugal Stopover program, which lets travelers add up to 10 days in Portugal at no extra airfare when travelling onward to dozens of destinations across Europe and Africa.
