Add New York City and Austin to your list of top bar-hopping destinations with the debut of two eagerly awaited spots: Brass Poppy and Bar Sprezzatura.
Brass Poppy is scheduled to open this September inside Hotel Van Zandt in downtown Austin, Texas. Positioned as the boutique hotel’s lobby bar, Brass Poppy will be led by Curtis Janto, a known figure behind several Austin hotspots. The cocktail menu reimagines classic drinks—think updated Grasshopper and Pink Lady variations—served with distinctive garnishes and refined glassware. Small bites, prepared by the hotel’s executive chef, will be offered in pintxos-style single-bite portions, making the bar a destination for both drinks and light fare.

“Hotel Van Zandt has always been a haven in the heart of Austin for locals and travelers to gather. We see this renovation and new concept as an opportunity to expand on the many ways guests can enjoy our property,” said Chris Guse, general manager of Hotel Van Zandt. “We’re excited to unveil Brass Poppy this fall; it will be a fresh and energetic addition to the Austin cocktail scene.”
In New York City, Bar Sprezzatura will make its East Coast debut this fall at Kimpton Hotel Theta. Perched on the hotel’s 16th floor, this year-round rooftop bar channels the relaxed elegance of the Italian Riviera through its signature cocktails and chic setting. Operated in partnership with TableOne Hospitality, Bar Sprezzatura expands from its original San Francisco location to offer a sophisticated rooftop experience in Manhattan. The venue also includes an indoor dining space on the 15th floor, providing an alternative for cooler evenings or more intimate meals.
Both openings reflect a continued trend of hotels creating standout food-and-drink destinations that appeal to locals and travelers alike. With creative cocktail programs, thoughtful small plates, and distinctive atmospheres, Brass Poppy and Bar Sprezzatura will be worth a stop for anyone exploring Austin or New York City’s vibrant bar scenes this fall.
