Hilton Worldwide is expanding its presence at European transport hubs with the conversion of the current Kempinski Munich Airport Hotel into a Hilton Hotels & Resorts property. The hotel, which currently offers 389 guestrooms, will be managed by Hilton beginning in January 2015. A planned renovation in 2017 will add 160 new guestrooms to the building, increasing capacity to better serve both business and leisure travelers.
The existing hotel features 389 rooms, including 43 suites, a spa with seven treatment rooms and an indoor swimming pool with a poolside bar. Located within Munich Airport—one of Europe’s busiest airports handling nearly 40 million passengers annually—the property fits Hilton’s long-standing focus on airport hotels. Hilton first introduced the airport-hotel concept with the San Francisco Airport Hilton in 1963, and the company continues to develop airport properties that combine strong meeting and business facilities with refined design and modern amenities for leisure guests.
Rob Palleschi, global head of Hilton Hotels & Resorts, said the new Munich property will join more than 50 airport hotels in Hilton’s global portfolio and marks the brand’s continued growth in Germany as its 13th hotel under the Hilton flag in the country.
