Etihad Airways is increasing its Abu Dhabi (AUH)–Moscow (DME) services to meet rising demand. The airline will expand from seven weekly flights to two daily flights beginning in June, and will further increase to three daily flights starting in October. This growth reflects strengthening ties between the United Arab Emirates and Russia driven by expanding business links, cultural exchange, and a sizable Russian community in the UAE.
James Hogan, President and CEO of Etihad Airways, noted that nearly 25,000 Russians live in the UAE and that about 400 Russia–UAE joint venture companies operate between the two countries. “These connections have never been stronger,” he said, adding that Etihad will operate 31 percent of the weekly frequencies on the UAE–Moscow route, offering more direct flights than any other carrier.
Etihad launched its Moscow route in December 2008 and has since transported more than 400,000 passengers on the service. The capacity increase aims to provide travelers with greater choice and more convenient schedules, supporting both leisure and business travel.
The move follows similar network enhancements by other Gulf carriers: Emirates, for example, has also announced an expansion of its Russian operations and plans to deploy a second daily Airbus A380 between Dubai (DXB) and Moscow from August.
