Ultimate Travel Inspiration: Top Destinations, Tips & Deals

This issue feels like a warm memory, bringing back highlights from my last trips of 2022. In October I joined Francis X. Gallagher and Haley Fogarty in Chicago and managed to visit one of the city’s newest spas (see page 26). In November, my husband Scott and I sailed the Seine from Paris through Normandy — a remarkable journey. Follow our itinerary on page 74 and enjoy the autumn views of the French countryside in my photo. I’m still dreaming of those croissants, macarons, the cheese and the wine — you know how it goes.

On the topic of river cruises, you have an exclusive opportunity to sail with Global Traveler this fall. Join our publisher and CEO, Francis X. Gallagher, aboard AmaWaterways’ AmaMagna for an itinerary that visits Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. Highlights include an Oktoberfest celebration in Vilshofen, a walking tour of Bratislava and sampling the Wachau Valley’s famous apricots. I’ve grown fond of river cruising — docking in small villages you wouldn’t otherwise reach, waking up in a new port each day, unpacking once and making new friends on board. Scott would agree!

My trip down memory lane continued as I prepared photos for our GT Tested Reader Survey awards recap on page 34, remembering a December visit to Los Angeles with the FXExpress Publications, Inc. team for the 19th annual reader-voted awards. Speaking of awards, do you think you qualify as the FXExpress Traveler of the Year? Submit nominations in seven categories by March 31 at globaltravelerusa.com/fxexpresstraveleroftheyear.

While reflecting on the past, I’m also getting ready to fly to Miami next week for an overnight trip. In January I reconnected with many travel contacts and writers at TravMedia’s International Media Marketplace in New York City, which energized my plans for 2023. This month we travel with you to Philadelphia, Ibiza, Bagan, Abu Dhabi, the Rocky Mountains, Turks & Caicos, Mexico City and Nashville. Next month we publish a special WhereverFamily digital issue — use the QR code on the cover to download our app so you don’t miss it.
