Marriott Opens First Bali Resort: What Travelers Need to Know

Marriott International has made its Bali debut with the opening of Sthala, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Ubud Bali, located in the island’s highly sought-after upland district.

“Tribute Portfolio is a brand built by and for our loyalty members,” said Brian Povinelli, global brand leader, Tribute Portfolio Hotels & Resorts. “When the brand launched, members asked for better access to independent hotels in destinations like Bali, particularly in distinctive neighborhoods such as Ubud. We’re delighted to answer that request with Sthala, an independent hotel that retains its own character while joining the Tribute Portfolio family.”

Perched on a hilltop amid lush tropical foliage, Sthala offers expansive views of the Wos River Valley and is designed to harmonize with its natural surroundings. The hotel celebrates Balinese tradition through thoughtful use of color, architectural elements and décor that reflect the destination’s culture and history. With 143 guest rooms, the property provides a full suite of services and amenities, including a modern fitness center, a dedicated yoga deck and a Balinese premium spa that blends wellness programming with cultural rituals.

“I am thrilled to bring the Tribute Portfolio brand to Bali with the opening of Sthala,” said James Costa, general manager, Sthala, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Ubud Bali. “We look forward to welcoming guests with authentic Balinese hospitality unique to the ‘Island of Gods,’ offering independent experiences while also delivering the benefits of Marriott International’s loyalty programs.”

Dining at Sthala emphasizes local flavors alongside international choices. The Naga Rooftop Bar & Lounge provides an open, airy setting with sweeping valley and river views, while Sungai Restaurant serves all-day dining with Asian cuisine infused with Balinese touches and a selection of Western dishes. Guests can relax at the Panorama Pool and Sundeck Lounge, enjoy handcrafted cocktails and take in panoramic vistas of the Wos River and surrounding forested hills.

The hotel’s arrival responds to Marriott loyalty members’ demand for greater access to independent-styled hotels in Indonesia. With its culturally driven design, high-quality service and distinctive offerings, Sthala aims to raise expectations for hospitality on this popular island destination.
