Southwest Airlines has announced a milestone route as it adds Cuba to its network for its 100th destination. The carrier will begin service to three Cuban cities: Havana (HAV), Varadero (VRA) and Santa Clara (SNU).
Gary Kelly, chairman, president and CEO of Southwest Airlines, highlighted the value proposition for travelers, noting that customers can now book flights to Cuba with Southwest’s low fares and no hidden fees, including complimentary checked bags and customer service from a seasoned airline team.
Service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Varadero began on Nov. 13. The airline plans to start flights to Havana on Dec. 12 from both Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood and Tampa International Airport, pending the necessary approvals from the Cuban government.
Steve Goldberg, vice president of ground operations for Southwest, said the expansion reinforces the airline’s broader commitment to Florida. Southwest now serves all eight of its Florida airports, aiming to connect customers to key destinations and opportunities throughout the state.
This addition to the route network marks a notable expansion for Southwest, offering travelers more options for leisure and family travel to Cuba while maintaining the carrier’s familiar service model and fare structure.
