The hornbill, an important symbol in Nagaland’s cultural heritage, is honored each year during the weeklong Hornbill Festival held from December 1–10. The festival showcases local food, music, dance, demonstrations of traditional herbal medicine, indigenous games, and a wide range of arts and crafts.
Geringer Global Travel’s 19-day Northeast India tour, timed to coincide with the Hornbill Festival, brings these experiences together with expert local guides in Delhi, Guwahati, and Kolkata. The itinerary includes seven nights aboard a wilderness cruise on the Brahmaputra River, a visit to Nameri National Park with a guided float trip along the Jia Bhoreli River to observe birds and wild elephants, and both a Jeep safari and morning elephant ride through the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kaziranga National Park, renowned for its population of one-horned rhinoceros.
The journey also offers immersive experiences at the Glenburn Tea Estate, where travelers can take part in tea tastings, a cooking class, and a guided tour of the tea factory. The tour price begins at $11,905 per person, based on double occupancy. The package includes accommodations, transfers, scheduled excursions and tours, and most meals. International airfare and optional excursions are not included in the base price.
The itinerary is designed for travelers who wish to combine cultural immersion with wildlife viewing and regional cuisine, offering a curated balance of festival activities, guided nature experiences, and time to explore historic and culinary highlights across Northeast India.
