Changi Airport Unveils Plan to Increase Airport Capacity Soon

Singapore’s Changi International Airport, long recognized as an industry leader in airport innovation, is preparing for the next phase of growth. Opened in 1981, Changi has continued to expand and modernize, and the airport recently confirmed plans to add a fourth terminal to meet rising passenger demand.

The new Terminal 4 is planned to strengthen Changi’s role as a major global aviation hub. While detailed designs and timelines are still being finalized, the terminal is expected to boost airport capacity by about 16 million passengers annually, bringing total capacity to roughly 82 million passengers. It will serve both full-service and low-cost carriers, helping the airport handle a wider mix of airlines and routes.

Designed with passenger convenience in mind, the approximately 160,000-square-foot terminal is set to include aerobridges at boarding gates, a centralized area for pre-boarding security and combined departure/arrival immigration controls, and an integrated parking facility with space for around 1,200 vehicles. These features aim to streamline passenger flows and reduce connection times.

Changi’s existing facilities already offer a wide range of services: across three terminals the airport houses more than 330 retail outlets and over 120 dining options. Today the airport serves around 110 airlines and connects travelers to more than 240 cities in about 60 countries, and Terminal 4 will help accommodate future growth while maintaining high standards of efficiency and customer experience.

As plans progress, Changi International Airport expects Terminal 4 to complement ongoing improvements across the complex, ensuring passengers continue to benefit from modern facilities, easy transfers, and a broad selection of retail and dining choices. The expansion reflects Changi’s commitment to adapting to evolving travel patterns and preserving its reputation as one of the world’s leading airports.
