MSC Cruises has unveiled ambitious expansion plans for Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, its private island in the Bahamas. The multi-phase project will add new experiences, upgraded facilities and an extended pier, with a projected opening in late 2027.

Since its 2019 debut, Ocean Cay has been a highlight of MSC’s Caribbean itineraries. The island was rehabilitated from a former industrial site into a protected marine reserve and guest destination, featuring more than two miles of shoreline across eight distinct beaches. Visitors currently enjoy a variety of dining venues, water sports, relaxation zones and family-friendly amenities.
More than a leisure destination, Ocean Cay also hosts the MSC Foundation’s Marine Conservation Center, which opened in April 2025. The center includes interactive pavilions, a lecture hall, a working laboratory and several coral nurseries that support local reef restoration and marine education programs.

The planned enhancements are designed to broaden the island’s appeal and improve guest flow. Key additions include four new dining concepts tailored to different tastes, a dedicated adults-only beach area, an increased number of rental cabanas, an enlarged family lagoon with more activities for children, and a new marine conservation experience that will deepen visitor engagement with the island’s restoration work.
Work is already underway to extend the island’s pier. Once finished, the improved dock will accommodate two ships at the same time, increasing passenger capacity and reducing turnaround times for shuttle operations. In parallel, MSC is developing a second private island adjacent to Ocean Cay. That neighboring site will expand the brand’s nature-focused offerings, creating additional opportunities for luxury and eco-conscious experiences while preserving the marine environment.
MSC says these investments reflect its commitment to sustainable tourism and guest satisfaction. By expanding both infrastructure and conservation programming, the company aims to balance increased visitor access with ongoing habitat restoration and community engagement in the Bahamas. Guests can expect a blend of enhanced leisure amenities and deeper educational opportunities when the expanded Ocean Cay opens in late 2027.
