With 118 luxury rooms a short distance from Albuquerque’s charming historic district, the new Hotel Chaco features an elegant interior designed by Kris Lajeskie that honors the region’s ancient cultures. The property highlights original works by contemporary Native American artists to create a meaningful, place-based atmosphere. Among the pieces on display is sculptor Joe Cajero of Jemez Pueblo’s lobby installation titled “oneness.” Guestrooms showcase rugs and wall hangings from Master Navajo weavers of the Toadlena Trading Post placed above the beds, while sister works by Navajo artist Rhett Lynch—known for vivid color and a wide range of paintings, drawings, sculptures and hand-woven tapestries—add depth to the collection.
The Gensler design team researched Chaco Canyon and prioritized sustainability while incorporating traditional architectural elements such as stone masonry, vigas and latillas. The building’s orientation follows the sun’s movements, reinforcing the connection between the hotel and its natural surroundings. For dining and views, the rooftop Level 5 offers dinner and cocktails, while Equinox Café & Lounge in the lobby serves breakfast, handcrafted hot beverages, fresh juicing options and light bites. Guests can relax in the pool and hot tub or venture into the neighborhood to discover more than 100 locally owned shops, restaurants, galleries, bars and cafés.
Nearby attractions include Chaco Canyon National Monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and other cultural points of interest that reflect the area’s deep archaeological and artistic heritage. Hotel Chaco’s combination of contemporary comfort, locally sourced art and thoughtful design makes it a destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and a connection to the Southwest’s historic landscape.
