American Airlines and Qatar Airways have announced a reciprocal frequent-flyer loyalty agreement that gives travelers more opportunities to earn and redeem miles across both carriers’ global networks. Under the new arrangement, American Airlines AAdvantage members can earn and use miles on flights operated by Qatar Airways, while Qatar Airways Privilege Club members can earn and redeem Qmiles on flights operated by American Airlines.
This loyalty agreement complements the existing codeshare partnership between the two carriers, which covers about 170 routes across the United States, Europe and the Middle East. Qatar Airways currently serves around 130 destinations in over 70 countries from its Doha (DOH) hub and is scheduled to join the oneworld alliance on Oct. 30. American Airlines operates more than 3,500 daily flights worldwide from major hubs including Chicago (ORD), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA) and New York (JFK).
The reciprocal benefits make it easier for frequent flyers to combine travel across both airlines when planning international itineraries, enhancing flexibility for earning elite status, redeeming awards and accessing partner benefits. Passengers should check each airline’s mileage accrual and redemption charts, as earning rates, eligible fare classes and redemption options may vary depending on the specific flight and booking class.
Both airlines recommend members verify the terms and conditions for earning and redeeming miles on partner flights, including any restrictions or blackout dates that might apply. Travelers can also review how partner flights count toward elite status qualification and whether benefits such as priority boarding, lounge access and baggage allowances apply when traveling on a partner-operated segment.
