Delta Launches New Nonstop Flights Between Mexico City and Minneapolis

Delta Air Lines partners with Aeromexico to introduce nonstop service between Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Mexico City International Airport (MEX) beginning next year.

Subject to government approval, the new flights are scheduled to start June 8, 2019. Departures from Minneapolis are planned for 8:50 a.m., with arrivals in Mexico City at 1:01 p.m., offering a convenient daytime connection for travelers in both cities.

The route will be operated using an Airbus A319 configured with 12 first-class seats, 18 Delta Comfort+ seats and 102 economy-class seats. Customers can expect onboard Wi‑Fi along with complimentary in-flight messaging and entertainment options.

“We’ve heard from our Twin Cities customers that Mexico City is at the top of their most requested destinations and this new service will give them just that and more,” said Steve Sear, president, international and executive vice president, global sales, Delta Air Lines. He noted the service will also provide expanded connectivity for travelers in numerous U.S. and Canadian cities through easy connections, and will enhance access to many destinations in Mexico through the Aeromexico partnership.

Brian Ryks, executive director and CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, praised the announcement: “Delta Air Lines’ decision to provide direct service to Mexico City from its hub in Minneapolis-St. Paul is great news for people and businesses throughout Minnesota. Mexico City is the most popular destination in Latin America lacking direct air service from MSP International Airport. On average, 700 people a day travel from MSP International Airport to Mexico. This new service and the connections from Mexico City to destinations beyond will make travel between Minnesota and locations south of the border easier and more convenient.”

The addition of nonstop MSP–MEX service aligns with demand from both leisure and business travelers seeking direct access to Mexico’s capital. By combining Delta’s U.S. network with Aeromexico’s extensive Mexican connectivity, the partnership aims to simplify travel planning and reduce total trip times for customers connecting onward to cities throughout Mexico.

The A319’s cabin mix offers options for passengers seeking added comfort or value: first class for those wanting extra space and personalized service, Delta Comfort+ for travelers who prefer more legroom and enhanced amenities, and the economy cabin for value-conscious flyers. All passengers benefit from onboard connectivity and entertainment, helping to make the short international hop productive or relaxing.

For communities served by MSP, the new link to Mexico City is expected to support tourism, strengthen business ties and expand cultural and economic exchange with Mexico. Travelers from across the Upper Midwest will gain a direct gateway to the region’s largest city, while Mexican visitors receive a new, convenient entry point into Minnesota and the broader U.S. network.

Final schedules and ticketing remain subject to regulatory approval and operational confirmation. Passengers interested in the new service should monitor official airline communications for the latest booking details and any updates to flight times or equipment.
