LAX Terminal Overhaul: What Travelers Need to Know Now

Last month, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) completed several significant terminal changes that will affect frequent travelers to and from the City of Angels.

The most notable change is Delta Air Lines’ full relocation from Terminals 5 and 6 to Terminals 2 and 3. This move reshuffled gate assignments and operations across multiple carriers, prompting adjustments for passengers, airport staff and connecting flights.

As part of the transition, Delta introduced 21 new departure and arrival gates and opened two new Delta Sky Clubs. The updated terminals also launched a variety of dining and retail options, including a Shake Shack and other food and shopping choices aimed at improving the passenger experience.

Although the terminal move is finished, work will continue. Los Angeles World Airports reports an ongoing renovation program for Terminals 2 and 3 with an estimated cost of $1.9 billion and a planned duration of seven years. Travelers flying with Delta should expect some continuing construction activity and allow extra time for check-in, security and transfers while finishing touches and additional upgrades are completed.

The reshuffle is intended to streamline operations and provide a more modern, consolidated experience for Delta customers, while enabling LAX to expand amenities and capacity. Frequent flyers should check terminal and gate information before departure, arrive early during the transition period, and watch for updated signage and airport announcements as the renovation progresses.
