EVA Air Joining Star Alliance: What It Means for Travelers

EVA Air officially joined Star Alliance, becoming the alliance’s 28th member. This milestone further strengthens the global network, which now serves more than 1,300 destinations across 195 countries.

The formal induction took place in EVA Air Hangar 3 at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). Attendees included Mark Schwab, CEO of Star Alliance; Austin Cheng, president of EVA Air; Ms. Wang Yingxiang, vice chairman of Air China (EVA Air’s sponsor for entry into the alliance); and chiefs from several Star Alliance carriers. International media covered the event. Celebrations featured a red carpet welcome, the unveiling of the first EVA Air aircraft painted in Star Alliance livery, performances by Taipei singers and dance ensembles, keynote remarks, light and music shows, video presentations, a lantern lighting ceremony, and cuisine representing Star Alliance member airlines.

Mark Schwab described the new membership as the addition of “another high-quality member,” noting that EVA Air’s inclusion helps advance Star Alliance’s goal of connecting cultures and strengthening regional links. Within the Asia/Pacific region, 19 member airlines operate more than 4,000 daily flights, serving 280 airports across 44 countries.

As a Star Alliance member, EVA Air will offer coordinated check-in for connecting flights and through-checked baggage when traveling on Star Alliance carriers. Members of EVA Air’s Infinity MileageLands frequent-flyer program can now earn and redeem miles across all Star Alliance airlines, enhancing benefits and seamless travel options for passengers.
