Waldorf Astoria Opens New San Francisco Hotel

Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts has announced a new West Coast property: Waldorf Astoria San Francisco. Located in the Transbay neighborhood, the hotel anchors a mixed-use development that combines entertainment and retail venues with office space. The hotel will occupy the first 21 stories of the tower, positioning it as a prominent component of the redevelopment around the Transbay Transit Center.

“With the revitalization taking place around the Transbay Transit Center, this neighborhood is poised to become a major hub for locals and global luxury travelers, which underscores Waldorf Astoria’s commitment to being in the center of coveted gateway destinations. Waldorf Astoria San Francisco marks our third property in California,” said John T.A. Vanderslice, global head of Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts.

The Transbay area offers strong walkability and extensive bike paths, complemented by well-planned green spaces where new restaurants and shops are opening regularly. The development’s tower is being designed by Foster + Partners, while Hirsch Bedner Associates is overseeing the hotel’s interior design, ensuring a sophisticated and cohesive guest experience.

Planned hotel amenities include a large spa and an upscale dining venue named Peacock Alley. Guests can expect the brand’s signature True Waldorf Service, maintaining the level of hospitality found at other Waldorf Astoria locations worldwide. The mixed-use project aims to blend luxury accommodations with neighborhood-focused retail and dining, creating a destination for both travelers and residents.

This Waldorf Astoria property will contribute to the transformation of the Transbay neighborhood into a major gateway district for San Francisco. With convenient access to transit, pedestrian-friendly streets, and a growing roster of local businesses, the location supports both leisure and business travel. The combination of an iconic design team, curated interiors, and high-end amenities positions the hotel to meet the expectations of discerning guests seeking refined service and modern urban convenience.

The development reflects broader trends in urban hospitality, where hotels are integrated into mixed-use projects to activate public spaces and support surrounding commercial activity. By occupying the lower portion of the tower, the Waldorf Astoria will create a visible and accessible entrance for guests, while upper floors and adjacent areas are expected to house offices and retail offerings that complement the hotel’s services.

As construction progresses, the project is likely to attract attention from local residents and travelers alike, eager to experience the new dining and leisure options that will accompany the hotel. With the design leadership of Foster + Partners and interior direction from Hirsch Bedner Associates, the Waldorf Astoria San Francisco aims to deliver a refined, contemporary interpretation of the brand’s storied hospitality tradition.
