The Eliza Jane, part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt, opened in New Orleans last month, located two blocks from the French Quarter.
The 196-room hotel occupies nine connected historic warehouses that surround a 2,000-square-foot interior courtyard. The design pays homage to the buildings’ past, including tenants such as the Peychaud Bitters factory and the Gulf Baking Soda Company. The property takes its name from Eliza Jane, the publisher of The Daily Picayune and the first woman to publish a major metropolitan newspaper in the late 19th century.
“New Orleans is one of the most exciting places in the country, and we are thrilled to bring a fresh take on the city’s hospitality scene with the opening of The Eliza Jane,” said Travis Tague, the hotel’s general manager. “The property fully embraces our city’s spirit, and we look forward to complementing that by offering personalized and genuine New Orleans experiences to our guests.”
Guest accommodations total 196 rooms, including 50 suites and 12 signature suites. Interiors favor rich color palettes, leather headboards, distinctive accent furniture and brass and walnut details. Many rooms retain original exposed brick walls and ceiling beams, creating a layered historic-meets-modern feel. Bathrooms are restrained and clean, with white subway tiles paired with teal vanities or Carrera stone; suites offer full wet rooms with freestanding tubs for a more luxurious experience.
The central courtyard preserves original brickwork and incorporates abundant greenery with influences from Spanish-style design. Serving as a link between the restaurant and hotel spaces, the courtyard provides relaxed seating and will be open in June.
Dining at The Eliza Jane includes the signature restaurant Couvant and The Press Room, a lounge designed with living-room comfort in mind. Couvant occupies the former bitters factory and blends industrial-modern aesthetics with classic New Orleans and French influences. The Press Room showcases an antique collection, a marble fireplace and custom brass light fixtures, creating an intimate, polished atmosphere for cocktails and small plates.
