Horses, California sunshine and exceptional dining await at the luxurious Alisal Ranch in Solvang, set across 10,500 acres in the scenic Santa Ynez Valley. The ranch’s year-round culinary programming is developed in partnership with Chef’s Roll, a community that brings together Michelin-starred chefs, mixologists, sommeliers, culinary students and hospitality professionals. Highlighted events include a BBQ Bootcamp from May 4–6 and BBQ University from Sept. 2–5.

“Alisal Ranch is proud to continue building on our programs and to introduce a stellar lineup of culinary talent to enhance the already memorable experiences we offer guests,” said Kathleen Cochran, general manager of Alisal Ranch. “The ranch remains a place to escape daily life, connect with the property’s natural beauty and enjoy a wide range of amenities. We’re delighted to collaborate with talented chefs to deliver unforgettable dining moments right here on our private ranch.”

At the May BBQ Bootcamp, chef, entrepreneur and tastemaker Valerie Gordon will emcee hands-on sessions focused on grilling, smoking and barbecue techniques using fresh, local ingredients. The program features notable participants including James Beard–recognized chef Suzanne Goin; food and travel writer Paula Disbrowe; New York Times bestselling author and pitmaster Aaron Franklin; and Derek Wolf and Brad Prose of FYR Grills. The weekend also includes a whiskey tasting and a class on spice blending.

In September, BBQ University will be led by television host and Barbecue Hall of Famer Steven Raichlen, who will provide hands-on instruction in preparing classics such as Memphis dry rub ribs, Thai rotisserie chicken, Texas Hill Country brisket and Brazilian rib roast. Each class includes a five-course lunch paired with craft beers and local wines.

Starting in May and continuing through the year, the ranch will host a series of five California Ranch Cookouts featuring celebrated chefs: May 31 with Chef Drew Deckman, co-owner of Michelin-starred restaurants in Baja and San Diego; June 21 with Chef Brian Malarkey accompanied by Carlos Anthony, executive chef of Herb & Wood in San Diego; July 19 with chef, teacher and author Javier Plascencia; Aug. 16 with Cat Cora, the first female Iron Chef; and Aug. 23 with Chef Maeve Schulz, owner and executive chef of Sugar & Scribe Bakery in La Jolla.

Guests attending these culinary events can also enjoy the ranch’s wide array of recreational activities, including horseback riding, hay wagon rides, kayaking, golf, tennis, canoeing and stargazing, making each visit a well-rounded escape into outdoors, gastronomy and relaxation.
