Air China has launched a new nonstop route between Los Angeles (LAX) and Shenzhen (SZX), operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner beginning December 7. This service connects two major centers of technology and innovation and expands direct travel options between Southern California and the Pearl River Delta.
“With China as Los Angeles’ top trading partner, we are committed to growing and strengthening the economic and cultural ties between the two,” said Dr. Zhihang Chi, vice president and general manager of Air China. He noted that the new Los Angeles–Shenzhen flight supports growing business links as Shenzhen-based tech companies increase their U.S. presence and investments.
The route also serves travelers heading to Hong Kong, which lies about 19 miles from Shenzhen, offering additional convenience for passengers transferring onward. Air China will operate the route with its latest Dreamliner, featuring a premium economy cabin alongside business and economy classes. Premium economy passengers receive extra legroom, priority boarding and increased PhoenixMiles accrual, while the airline’s pricing and upgrade programs aim to provide competitive value for both business and leisure travelers.
Aircraft configuration on the route includes 30 business-class seats, 34 premium-economy seats and 229 economy seats, for a total capacity of 293 passengers. Flights are scheduled three times weekly: Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Departures from Shenzhen are at 11:30 p.m., arriving in Los Angeles the same day at approximately 8:00 p.m. Westbound departures from Los Angeles leave at 10:50 p.m., with arrivals in Shenzhen at about 5:40 a.m. two days later, accounting for the international routing and time zone differences.
This nonstop connection provides a direct link for traders, technology professionals and tourists, improving access between Southern California and one of China’s most dynamic business regions while also offering convenient connections for travelers bound for Hong Kong and other nearby destinations.
