Attend the Largest National Gingerbread House Competition This Holiday Season

The Omni Grove Park Inn is celebrating the season with its 23rd annual National Gingerbread House Competition, the largest event of its kind in the United States.

Held on Nov. 16, the competition showcases a wide range of edible creations, from intimate cottages to large, elaborate displays and scenic landscapes decorated with icing, candy and seasonal accents. Each year, hundreds of bakers, pastry artists and hobbyists travel to The Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, N.C., to compete for more than $7,500 in cash and prizes.

Entries are evaluated by a panel of nationally recognized food, arts and media professionals and must meet strict rules: at least 75 percent of the structure must be made from gingerbread and all components must be edible. Judges score each entry on overall appearance, originality and creativity, technical difficulty, precision and consistency of theme. The competition’s high standards have attracted top-tier design and pastry talent and have earned coverage on outlets such as ABC’s Good Morning America, the Travel Channel and the Food Network.

Visitors who want to extend the experience can take advantage of the hotel’s Gingerbread Holiday package, available through Dec. 29. The package includes overnight accommodations, breakfast, gingerbread cookies and overnight valet or garage parking, with rates starting from $308 per night.

The Omni Grove Park Inn will exhibit the gingerbread creations from the competition through the New Year. Guests will also enjoy 80 themed Christmas trees, thousands of sparkling lights and cozy fireplaces throughout the property, creating a festive atmosphere for families and visitors during the holiday season.
