Boeing 787 Dreamliner presence continues to grow in the Middle East with the delivery of Oman Air’s first 787 this month. This aircraft is the first of six 787-8s the carrier ordered in November 2011 as part of a broader fleet expansion. Oman Air plans to deploy the fuel-efficient Dreamliner on routes linking Saudi Arabia and Europe, improving range and operational cost-efficiency.
“We are delighted to receive our first Dreamliner which, combined with Oman Air’s award-winning service, will provide an excellent travel experience for our customers,” said Paul Gregorowitsch, CEO of Oman Air. “Our investment in this game-changing airplane underlines our confidence in the 787 and the value it will add in terms of reliability, operational efficiency and passenger comfort.”
The introduction of the 787 supports Oman Air’s strategy to modernize its fleet and enhance long-haul connectivity. The 787-8 model offers improved fuel burn and reduced emissions compared with older narrowbody and early widebody aircraft, allowing carriers to open or expand medium- and long-haul routes more profitably while offering passengers a quieter cabin and higher humidity for greater comfort.
Boeing currently serves eight 787 customers in the Middle East, with a total of 175 Dreamliners ordered and 140 still on backlog. That regional demand reflects airlines’ interest in the 787’s economics and flexibility for international networks.
“We’re proud to have Oman Air join our growing base of 787 customers in the Middle East and around the world,” said Ray Conner, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “Our partnership with Oman Air dates back almost 15 years, during which the airline has operated the 737 family. We’re pleased to support the introduction of Boeing twin-aisle airplanes into their expanding fleet.”
The delivery marks a milestone for Oman Air as it continues to broaden its route map and improve passenger experience. With the Dreamliner now in service, the carrier can offer improved schedule flexibility and a more efficient platform for connecting markets across the region and into Europe.
