Solmar Hotels & Resorts Cabo San Lucas: Global Sustainability Efforts

Last year during Earth Hour, the global lights-out event promoted by the World Wildlife Fund, Solmar Hotels & Resorts joined the movement with a symbolic gesture: lights at Grand Solmar Land’s End and Solmar Resort properties were dimmed for one hour. To reinforce the message, staff arranged flares and candles to form the Earth Hour logo and a large “60+” display, drawing attention to the need to address climate change.

While a one-hour symbolic blackout is a visible statement, Solmar’s sustainability work extends far beyond that single night. All of the company’s properties in Mexico’s Cabo San Lucas region implement daily practices aimed at protecting the local environment and preserving ocean health. The chain also runs ongoing awareness initiatives for both guests and employees to promote more sustainable behavior.

Several properties have introduced technical upgrades that reduce energy use and water consumption. For example, Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa and The Ridge at Playa Grande use a Multistack system to heat room water without gas, cutting CO2 emissions. In addition, the installation of a machine room with pre-filters has led to a roughly 65 percent reduction in water consumption.

At Grand Solmar Land’s End, solar thermal energy is captured and used to heat guest room water. Solmar Resort and Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa have upgraded pool lighting to more efficient systems, lowering voltage and overall energy usage.

Several Solmar properties, including Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & Spa, Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes Resort Golf & Spa and Playa Grande, operate seawater desalination and purification systems. These systems expand available water resources, help reduce pressure on local aquifers and ensure a reliable supply of fresh water during drought conditions.

Solmar’s beach protection and preservation program encourages guests and local residents to participate in regular shoreline cleanups. These volunteer-driven campaigns help keep beaches free of debris while raising awareness about marine conservation.

Solmar Hotels & Resorts pursues a daily commitment to environmental responsibility through clear objectives, policies and procedures that balance social, business and ecological priorities. As part of that effort, the company established Solmar Energy Committees to monitor and optimize consumption of water, liquid petroleum gas and electricity across operational areas.

All Solmar properties are located on the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Sur, in the Cabo San Lucas region. The portfolio includes Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & Spa, Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa, The Ridge at Playa Grande, Solmar Resort, and the more recent additions Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes and Grand Solmar The Residences.
