Park Hyatt New York Review: Luxury, Location & Insider Tips

ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: My stay at Park Hyatt New York was exceptional from the moment I arrived. Entering on the ground floor and taking the elevator up to the lobby, I found no line at check-in. Staff asked a few quick questions about my preferences, handed me my keys, and I was soon on my way to the 1 Bedroom Sleep Suite by Bryte, eager to begin the stay.

GUEST QUARTERS: Walking into the suite, I was immediately impressed. The door opens to a small entryway with a convenient half-bath. To the left, the space expands into a generous living room featuring an armoire with the minibar, a comfortable sofa, a wall-mounted flat-screen TV, and a desk with windows that reveal glimpses of New York City and Central Park between neighboring buildings. A beautifully presented cheese plate under a glass dome sat on the coffee table, a thoughtful welcome touch.

The bedroom is the highlight, centered on The Restorative Bed by Bryte, which arrived with a sleep mask, essential oils, and a sleepytime tea to promote better rest. The bed includes a smart mattress linked to technology that customizes sleep settings nightly. A bedside tablet allows guests to adjust temperature and firmness and choose wake options. I selected a gentle motion wake, and the following morning the Bryte system provided a detailed sleep report summarizing my time in bed and sleep quality.

A recommendation to take a warm bath before using the Bryte bed is easy to follow: a welcoming bathtub sits in the full bathroom just off the bedroom. A short hall with a closet leads to a spacious bathroom with a freestanding tub, a water closet, and a large shower equipped with an excellent rainfall head. Le Labo amenities added a pleasant scent to the experience. One night was far too short to enjoy it all.

SERVICES/AMENITIES: The hotel offers an extensive range of amenities, beginning with an indoor saltwater pool accompanied by a eucalyptus steam room and a hot tub. Spa Nalai includes several treatment rooms and a Rossano Ferretti Hairspa, both of which were active when I peeked in. The 24-hour fitness center delivers impressive Manhattan skyline views that make workouts more enjoyable.

There are roughly 9,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space suitable for a variety of functions.

I didn’t get a chance to dine in The Living Room, a space inspired by the feel of a New York apartment that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and tapas-style plates alongside cocktails and wine. I did, however, enjoy a prompt and delicious breakfast delivered to my room before heading out.

TOP TAKEAWAYS:

  • Allow time to appreciate the art displayed throughout the hotel. During my stay the rotating exhibition showcased contemporary abstract pieces by Jeffrey Okyere-Agyei; more than 350 museum-quality works are featured around the property.
  • The hotel’s location is ideal for exploring the city — within easy reach of Broadway theaters, top restaurants, and the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
  • The Restorative Bed by Bryte is notable for its data-driven approach to sleep. I reviewed the morning report with interest to learn about my deep sleep duration, movement during the night, and other sleep metrics.
  • All interiors are designed by Yabu Pushelberg, giving the hotel a cohesive, sophisticated aesthetic.
