Qantas Expands International Routes: New Flights and Destinations

Qantas will increase frequencies on selected routes to Asia, the United States and New Zealand. From November 4, the airline will add an extra weekly Airbus A380 service between Sydney (SYD) and Hong Kong (HKG), bringing A380 flights on that route to five times per week. According to Qantas CEO Alan Joyce, the Group is committed to Asia and has already lifted capacity to Hong Kong by 10 percent this year. The aircraft change also increases the number of A380 rotations into Asia and adds nearly 5 percent more seats per week on the Sydney–Hong Kong route.

Qantas is also expanding its Brisbane (BNE) to Los Angeles (LAX) schedule from six weekly services to daily operations. These flights will be operated using Boeing 747-400 aircraft, providing more options and capacity for travelers between Queensland and the U.S. west coast.

In addition, Qantas will introduce a new Perth (PER) to Auckland (AKL) service starting December 6. The route will be served twice weekly with Airbus A330 aircraft through February 1, 2014, offering increased connectivity between Western Australia and New Zealand.

These network adjustments are expected to support inbound tourism to Australia, a benefit that becomes more pronounced when the Australian dollar is weaker and the country grows more attractive to international visitors, Joyce added.
