Revolutionary Jet Design Eliminates Middle Seats for Good

The striking Embraer E190-E2 “show” aircraft, painted with a dramatic shark livery, has drawn attention worldwide — and the surprises continue once passengers step inside.

Built by Brazil’s Embraer, the E190-E2 has toured the globe to showcase the E2 family, a modern regional jet line that competes with aircraft like the Airbus A220 in several key areas.

Passenger comfort is a clear priority. The E190-E2 provides noticeably more legroom and eliminates the traditional middle seat by using a two-by-two seating layout, so every traveler is seated at either a window or an aisle. In the premium cabin, staggered seats increase personal space and privacy.

The cabin is designed to feel more like a wide-body jet, featuring higher ceilings and more wall area to create an open, airy atmosphere. Larger, framed windows bring in more natural light, while redesigned overhead bins offer about 40 percent more stowage capacity compared with previous models.

Performance improvements include better fuel efficiency, achieved through a high-aspect-ratio wing design and lighter airframe materials, which together help reduce operating costs and environmental impact.

When the show aircraft completes its promotional tour, other E2 models will continue to enter regular service. Airlines already operating or planning to operate the E2 series include regional carriers in markets such as Norway with Widerøe and in the United States with SkyWest.
