Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine, a former abbey in Spain’s north-central province of Castilla y León beside the Duero River, has been recognized as one of the 15 Best Building Conservation projects in Europe. Led by architect Marco Serra, this 1,000-year-old estate—now part of the Novartis collection—has been meticulously restored and converted into a luxurious 5-star hotel that preserves its historic character.
The restoration emphasizes original architectural elements, including the cloister, chapterhouse and refectory. The property offers 22 artfully appointed guestrooms and suites that blend contemporary comforts with the abbey’s Romanesque-Baroque features.
Dining is centered around The Refectorio, a restaurant set within original stone walls and a vaulted ceiling, featuring a 17th-century fresco of The Last Supper. Additional venues include La Vinoteca tapas bar, The Cloister Garden Mediterranean restaurant, and the Sala Capitular lounge and bar. Guests can sample wines produced on the estate and take guided excursions into the renowned Ribera del Duero wine region.
Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine provides a refined retreat that combines historic architecture, gourmet dining and wine-focused experiences, appealing to travelers seeking cultural depth alongside upscale hospitality.
