Stay in a Historic New York State Mansion This Summer

Traditions at the Glen began life as a private residence for Eliot Spalding and his family. Spalding was the treasurer of the Edict Johnson Shoe Factory in the early 1900s. In the mid-1920s the estate changed hands to the Kalurah Shriners, who added a golf course and converted the mansion into a Masonic clubhouse. About ten years later IBM acquired the property and used it as a meeting and retreat site.

Over the years the property hosted notable visitors including Bing Crosby, Eleanor Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower. Today the estate operates as a boutique hotel within the Ascend Hotel Collection, opening its doors to a broader range of travelers.

The hotel offers 41 guestrooms overlooking the Susquehanna River and sits alongside an 18-hole championship golf course. It also features a full-sized footgolf course, a spa that includes a Himalayan salt cave and infrared sauna, a salon and meditation rooms. Additional amenities include an on-site restaurant, a fitness center, flexible meeting and event space, complimentary breakfast and late check-out.

Located in Johnson City, New York, Traditions at the Glen is a short drive from Binghamton. Guests can easily visit local cultural attractions such as art galleries, performances by the Binghamton Philharmonic, and the Kopernik Observatory and Science Center, the largest public observatory in the northeastern United States.

Traditions at the Glen is one of several new properties joining the Ascend Hotel Collection. Additional openings are planned in other markets, expanding the brand’s portfolio in regions such as Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Long Island and Napa.
