Venture outside of Tokyo to discover the wonders of Yamaguchi.
JUST A SHORT FLIGHT from the skyscrapers and urban energy of Tokyo, Yamaguchi offers landscapes, coastal views, and cultural sites that contrast beautifully with the capital. Spending time in both places gives travelers a fuller picture of Japan’s variety — from modern metropolis to serene nature.
Use this four-day itinerary to experience the highlights of Tokyo and Yamaguchi and let your senses guide you through history, scenery, and local flavors.

DAY ONE, TOKYO
Start with the Tokyo Panoramic Drive (Hato Bus) to see iconic city sights: Tokyo Tower, Toranomon Hills, the National Diet Building, Rainbow Bridge, Tsukiji, and Ginza. The sweeping views—especially of Rainbow Bridge—capture Tokyo’s scale and energy.
For an elevated perspective, visit Tokyo City View. Its indoor observation gallery sits more than 800 feet above ground, while the outdoor Sky Deck reaches close to 900 feet, offering panoramic outlooks that include Tokyo Tower and TOKYO SKYTREE.

DAY TWO, TOKYO AND YAMAGUCHI
A direct flight from Haneda to Iwakuni Kintaikyo Airport takes roughly one hour and 40 minutes. Once in Yamaguchi, spend the afternoon at Kintaikyo, famous for its elegant wooden arches spanning the Nishiki River. The bridge is a notable example of traditional Japanese engineering and craftsmanship.
Nearby, explore Iwakuni Castle for panoramic views over the area, and visit the Iwakuni Art Museum to see samurai armor and swords that evoke Japan’s historical eras. The Iwakuni Shirohebi (White Snake) Museum houses the rare local white snakes and is designated a National Natural Monument.

DAY THREE, YAMAGUCHI
Drive or cycle across the Tsunoshima Bridge to admire the brilliant blue of the Amagase Sea. Stretching nearly 6,000 feet, the bridge is one of Japan’s longest free-to-cross spans and provides striking coastal views.
The bridge and surrounding coastline belong to the Kita-Nagato Kaigan Quasi-National Park, where seasonal blooms such as crinum asiaticum line the shore. Nearby, the Tsunoshima Lighthouse, built in 1876, is recognized as one of Japan’s prominent lighthouses and is a scenic spot for sunset and night viewing.

DAY FOUR, YAMAGUCHI AND RETURN TO TOKYO
Before flying back to Tokyo, visit Karato Market to experience a lively local food scene. On Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays the market’s first floor fills with seafood stalls offering fresh sushi, blowfish sashimi, blowfish soup, and other regional specialties. It’s an ideal place to taste Yamaguchi’s maritime cuisine and soak in the bustling atmosphere.
This four-day route blends Tokyo’s urban highlights with Yamaguchi’s coastal beauty and cultural sites, giving travelers a compact yet varied experience of Japan.
