Qatar Airways has signed a codeshare agreement with Bangkok Airways that expands its network across Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar. Under the arrangement, Qatar Airways will place its QR code on Bangkok Airways-operated flights from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) to Phnom Penh, Cambodia (PNH), and Yangon, Myanmar (RGN). The partnership also adds Qatar codeshare services on several domestic Thai routes served by Bangkok Airways, including Samui (USM), Phuket (HKT), Chiang Mai (CNX), Trat (TDX), Sukhothai (THS), Lampang (LPT) and Krabi (KBV).
Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, noted that Doha’s hub is ideally positioned to link East and West, and that the new collaboration with Bangkok Airways will enable smoother onward connections for passengers travelling to destinations where Qatar Airways already has an established presence in Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar. The codeshare will allow travellers to book through-ticketing and coordinated itineraries between the two carriers, improving connectivity and convenience for regional and international travellers.
Qatar Airways operates a fleet of 124 aircraft from its Doha hub (DOH) and serves 126 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and South America. The deal with Bangkok Airways strengthens Qatar Airways’ regional reach in Southeast Asia by offering additional frequency and destination options through a local partner with established domestic and regional routes.
The codeshare agreement is designed to benefit both leisure and business travellers by simplifying connections, aligning schedules and expanding route choices without requiring passengers to change carriers during the same itinerary. By combining Qatar Airways’ long-haul network with Bangkok Airways’ short- and medium-haul services, the partnership aims to provide a more seamless travel experience for customers flying between the Middle East, Southeast Asia and beyond.
Passengers booking via Qatar Airways’ channels on the newly codeshared sectors can expect standard codeshare practices such as coordinated flight numbers, shared baggage allowances when applicable, and the possibility of through check-in where operationally feasible. The collaboration also supports tourism and trade links between the regions by making it easier for travellers to reach secondary and resort destinations across Thailand as well as key capitals in Cambodia and Myanmar.
This agreement follows Qatar Airways’ ongoing strategy to strengthen global connectivity through partnerships that extend its network without adding redundant capacity, while leveraging local carriers’ route knowledge and operational strengths. For travellers, it means more direct booking options and improved access to popular and remote destinations across Southeast Asia.
