Kazakhstan’s national carrier, Air Astana, has introduced in-flight WiFi on its Boeing 767 aircraft and plans to roll the service out across all three of its 767s.
The connectivity is offered to both business- and economy-class passengers in three payment tiers: Light (15 MB), Business (50 MB) and Super (100 MB). The service provides estimated speeds of 2–5 Mbps, suitable for web browsing, social media, email and audio streaming. It is not expected to reliably support high-definition video streaming.
“One of our core missions at Air Astana is to be on the cutting edge of technology and to continuously enhance the passenger experience both onboard and on the ground,” said Andrey Gulev, manager of commercial engineering at Air Astana. “We demonstrated this commitment in 2016 when we were among the first airlines to adopt Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) high-speed in-flight connectivity system in partnership with Rockwell Collins. We’re pleased to launch the service now and look forward to feedback from passengers who can stay connected for work or keep in touch with friends during their flight.”
Air Astana expects the second of its three Boeing 767s to be equipped with WiFi capacity by Oct. 20, with the remaining aircraft to follow as the rollout continues.
