American Airlines Expands In-Flight Wi-Fi: Faster Coverage Across Fleet

American Airlines now provides high-speed WiFi on more aircraft than any other carrier. This expansion includes the airline’s entire long-term mainline narrow-body fleet—more than 700 aircraft—bringing satellite-based connectivity that supports video streaming, file uploads and downloads. The retrofitted planes also offer live TV streaming, giving passengers access to 12 channels on personal devices at no extra charge. American Airlines is currently the only U.S. carrier to provide live TV streaming on international flights.

These enhancements are part of American Airlines’ recent investments in the onboard customer experience. Earlier this year, the airline announced a partnership with Apple Music to give passengers access to a catalog of more than 50 million songs, playlists and music videos during flights.

In the coming months, American plans to install charging ports at every seat across its mainline fleet and to retrofit narrow-body aircraft with tablet holders that include USB charging ports. These upgrades aim to make flying more convenient and productive for travelers.

“Elevating the travel experience is one of our top goals at American and we’ve been working hard to provide our customers with the same level of entertainment and connectivity options they enjoy in their own living rooms,” said Kurt Stache, senior vice president, marketing, loyalty and sales, American Airlines. “In less than two years, we completed broadband internet installation on our entire mainline fleet and we will continue setting new standards in the industry to show our customers we value the time they spend with us.”

By prioritizing connectivity and in-flight entertainment, American Airlines aims to meet modern traveler expectations for seamless digital access. The combination of fast satellite WiFi, complimentary live TV streaming and expanded charging options positions the airline to deliver a more comfortable and productive travel experience across domestic and international routes.
