Amtrak Unveils Modernized Train Interiors: What to Expect

Amtrak passenger trains that operate on the busy Northeast Corridor and across the Midwest will soon feature refreshed, modern interiors. The update includes new seating, improved lighting, and redesigned café cars to enhance the onboard experience.

Last month the passenger railroad announced a $16 million program to modernize coach-car interiors. Upgrades will include new seat cushions and carpeting, upgraded LED reading lights, refreshed restroom flooring, and updated interior design elements. Business-class cars will gain new curtains for added privacy and comfort, while café-car galleys will be completely reworked to improve functionality and appearance.

Amtrak co-CEO Wick Moorman said the improvements, scheduled to begin appearing on trains in summer 2018, will create “a marked improvement in the overall ambience on board.” The work is intended to give riders a more comfortable, refreshed look and feel that reflects customer feedback about what matters most during travel.

The interior refresh will affect more than 450 cars nationwide, bringing more consistent comfort and style across Amtrak’s fleet. These renovations build on earlier enhancements such as the addition of power outlets and onboard WiFi, continuing the railroad’s focus on passenger amenities and modern convenience.

By updating seating, lighting, flooring, and café facilities, Amtrak aims to make journeys more pleasant for regular commuters and occasional travelers alike while maintaining operational reliability across its busiest corridors.
