Etihad and Aegean Launch New Codeshare Agreement for Expanded Flights

Etihad Airways and Greek carrier Aegean Airlines have signed a new codeshare agreement designed to expand connections between Greece, the Gulf region, Australia and South Africa. The partnership improves travel options for passengers on both carriers by linking domestic Greek routes with Etihad’s global network and by adding Etihad destinations to Aegean’s schedule.

As part of the agreement, Aegean will launch a new service between Athens (ATH) and Abu Dhabi (AUH) operating four times weekly from March 30, using 168-seat Airbus A320 aircraft. Etihad will place its flight code on this new Aegean-operated service, providing customers with coordinated schedules and easier connections. In addition, Etihad will codeshare on Aegean-operated flights to 16 destinations within Greece and on an extra ten routes across Europe, increasing access to regional airports and popular Greek islands.

Aegean will reciprocate by placing its code on Etihad-operated flights between Athens and several long-haul and regional destinations: Bahrain (BAH), Kuwait (KWI), Johannesburg (JNB), Melbourne (MEL), Perth (PER) and Sydney (SYD). This arrangement gives Aegean customers ticketing and connection benefits to Etihad’s wider international network, including key cities in the Middle East, Africa and Australia.

James Hogan, CEO of Etihad, noted that the new Aegean-operated Abu Dhabi–Athens service will complement Etihad’s existing daily flights between the two cities and strengthen connectivity between Greece and Etihad’s global route map. He added that Etihad’s ability to place its flight code on Aegean services to popular Greek destinations will enhance the overall customer proposition and make travel between Greece and markets served by Etihad more convenient.

The codeshare is intended to streamline itineraries, provide coordinated schedules and allow both airlines to offer seamless onward connections through interline and codeshare ticketing. Passengers should expect improved transfer options and a broader choice of destinations when booking travel that combines flights from both carriers.

This partnership also supports tourism and business travel by connecting Greek gateways with major hubs in the Gulf and key long-haul markets. By aligning schedules and sharing marketing and distribution across mutual routes, Aegean and Etihad aim to simplify planning for passengers traveling between Europe, the Gulf, Africa and Australia.

Customers planning travel on routes covered by the agreement should check each airline’s booking channels for the latest schedules, flight numbers and ticketing details. Codeshare flights will appear under the marketing airline’s flight number even when the operating carrier is the partner airline, so passengers should confirm the operating carrier, departure times and baggage policies at the time of booking.
