As American interest in visiting previously restricted Cuba keeps growing, the island’s tourism sector has slowly adapted. After the Obama administration eased travel restrictions, only a handful of U.S.-branded hotels opened, leaving a gap in the luxury accommodations market.
That landscape shifted in June with the opening of the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski, situated in the heart of Old Havana (Havana Vieja). Housed in the historic Manzana de Gómez building dating from the late 19th century, the hotel sits within one of Havana’s most visited areas and complements the city’s rich architectural heritage.
Havana’s first five-star hotel features 246 guestrooms, three restaurants, a rooftop pool and a 10,000-square-foot private spa. Interior design and public spaces reflect the local culture and history, with Cuban art and photography displayed throughout the property. Guests can also enjoy a dedicated cigar-and-rum pairing bar that highlights Cuban traditions.
The Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski brings upscale services and modern comforts to a restored landmark while emphasizing authenticity and local character. Its arrival marks an important step in expanding true luxury hospitality options in Havana, offering both international travelers and those revisiting the city a more refined place to stay without losing the distinct sense of place that defines Old Havana.
