The Hertz Corp. is rolling out a new maintenance and cleanliness protocol, Hertz Certified Clean and Safe, at its major airport locations across Europe. The program requires each vehicle to pass a 36-point checklist in a dedicated maintenance and cleaning area before it is rented.
“At Hertz we are committed to ensuring our vehicles are clean and safe before each rental,” said Michel Taride, group president, Hertz International. “Our Certified Clean and Safe program is one of the steps we are taking to share our internal processes with our customers, providing them with an extra sense of security. Finding a card that certifies the 36-point cleaning and inspection process the car has undergone prior to being rented is certainly very reassuring for our customers.”
This initiative is also available at many airport and suburban locations in the United States, expanding the company’s consistent approach to vehicle hygiene and maintenance across multiple markets.
The certified process emphasizes thorough cleaning, routine maintenance checks, and visible verification for customers. Vehicles are inspected and cleaned in dedicated areas by trained staff who follow the checklist to confirm items such as interior sanitation, exterior cleanliness, tire condition, fluid levels, and functional safety features. Once a car completes the checklist, a certification card or similar confirmation is provided to reassure renters that the vehicle has met the program’s standards.
By standardizing cleaning and inspection procedures, Hertz aims to enhance customer confidence and reduce variability in vehicle presentation and safety. The program also supports operational consistency across locations, making it easier for staff to follow the same steps and for customers to expect a similar level of cleanliness and readiness no matter where they rent.
