Delta Marks 70 Years with Miami Celebration

Delta Air Lines is marking a significant milestone: 70 years of service at Miami International Airport. The airline began flights to Miami on Dec. 1, 1945, making Delta the longest-serving carrier at the airport. The inaugural Miami-to-Chicago (ORD) flight used a Douglas DC-3 and carried just 21 passengers. Today, Delta transports nearly 2.5 million passengers through Miami each year.

“We are proud to celebrate the longevity and significant contributions that Delta has made in our community,” said Emilio T. Gonzalez, director of Miami-Dade Aviation. “As our longest-serving airline, we are honored to have so many past and present employees here to celebrate this historic milestone.”
