Azamara Reveals Greenland Shore Excursions for Maiden Voyage

Azamara Cruises has introduced new shore programming for its Greenland sailings beginning this July. Known for Destination Immersion experiences and Extended Destination Days, the line developed these immersive shore excursions in collaboration with local communities to highlight Greenland’s dramatic landscapes and living culture. With a focus on locally driven activities, guests will experience authentic Greenlandic traditions while contributing to the wellbeing of local people and economies.

The new program focuses on small-group, authentic experiences designed with community partners. Highlights include guided walks, cultural tastings, and active excursions that put nature and local insight front and center. Below is an overview of the shore excursions offered on Greenland sailings:

  • Qaqortoq Town Walk: A guided tour of the charming town of Qaqortoq that explores historical landmarks and offers perspective on daily life in southern Greenland.
  • UTV Mountain Tour: An adventurous off-road ride around Nuuk’s rugged terrain, visiting notable viewpoints and concluding with a tasting of traditional fish soup prepared by local hosts.
  • Food Tasting & Storytelling: A scenic backcountry hike outside Nuuk paired with samples of seasonal Greenlandic foods—local “superfoods”—and storytelling that shares cultural context and local traditions.
  • Sisimiut View Point Hike: A trek that showcases Sisimiut’s sweeping mountain scenery and includes a visit to the historic hunter’s quarter to learn about Greenland’s hunting heritage.

Greenland is still largely unaffected by mass tourism and is prized for its remote coastal settlements, rich cultural encounters, and dramatic natural phenomena such as the Midnight Sun. Azamara’s scheduled Greenland itineraries for the season include:

  • July 21: 15-Night Greenland, Newfoundland & Quebec Voyage
  • Aug. 5: 15-Night Quebec, Greenland & Iceland Voyage
  • July 27, 2026: 30-Night Path of the Vikings: Scandinavia, Iceland, Greenland & Quebec Voyage

Each voyage pairs immersive onboard programming with carefully curated shore excursions that prioritize meaningful local engagement. Travelers interested in Greenland can expect small-group experiences that emphasize environmental respect, cultural exchange, and time to appreciate the region’s exceptional scenery and heritage.
