Arrival/Check-In: I flew to Singapore from Seoul on Asiana Airlines flight 751, arriving at Changi Airport around 9:45 p.m. Despite the late hour, the Fairmont Singapore provided a swift and efficient check-in. The hotel complex shares facilities with the adjoining Swissôtel, giving guests access to a wide selection of dining and leisure options. I stayed in room 1717, a mini-suite with a city view.
Guest Quarters: The décor blends classic and Asian influences, creating a clean, comfortable atmosphere. In the suite, a king-sized bed sat beside a night table with a control panel that operated most room functions. A seating area with a glass coffee table welcomed me with fresh fruit, nuts, chocolate and a bottle of wine. A sofa with a built-in chaise faced a flat-screen TV and entertainment center, while a desk occupied the far corner. Each guestroom includes an iPad for work or reading and offers plentiful outlets and connections throughout.
A compact vanity table opened to reveal a mirror with lighting and, when closed, served as an extra workstation. The bathroom featured white and black marble, a single sink, a separate bathtub and a powerful shower. The range of toiletries was generous—Rose 31 shampoo, conditioner and lotions were provided—and the hotel also supplied dental kits, nail kits, vanity kits and a large bath soap for guests who might need them.
Services/Amenities: Between meetings and dinner I visited the Willow Stream Spa for an aromatherapy massage, which was a restorative break after several flights. The spa treatments are well worth the time and a session of about 90 minutes leaves you refreshed.
The two properties offer many dining options. The Lobby Court bar at the Fairmont features skilled mixologists and a well-made bourbon Manhattan. Prego serves Italian-style breakfasts and all-day meals. Alligator Pear, positioned between the Fairmont and Swissôtel, provides poolside dining and a substantial breakfast buffet. Mikuni offers Japanese cuisine, which made a convenient lunch stop during a busy day. With so many dining venues on-site and Singapore’s wider food scene nearby, more time would be needed to sample all the options.
Top Takeaways:
◆ The doormen are consistently helpful, ready to hail a cab or assist with directions and luggage.
◆ The location is excellent—many popular attractions are within walking distance, though visitors should be mindful of Singapore’s frequent sudden thunderstorms.
